There is a significant conflict of interest between advertising and providing good healthcare. I am sure advertisers are anxiously awaiting the opportunity to reach patients. I hope google has a way of enforcing or limiting unethical and potentially dangerous products/services from reaching patients. I totally agree that google healthcare is a bit scary. I blog for Alijor, which runs a free healthcare connecting site (www.alijor.com). We're completely ad- free at this point. You're right, Google will have to radically change in order to gain the credibility to deal with healthcare- but either way, healthcare IT is inevitable. It's only a matter of going with the right motivations, I suppose. Cheers, Alijor alijor.blogspot.com Wow, I had never even thought about that! My patients are terribly confused about this stuff. I just think that Adwords won't work with Google Health. What happens if Pharma gets a hold of it and pays premium dollar so patients suddenly feel they need the most expensive med instead of the generic that works just as well? It happens in my office with DTC all the time. Advertising works. That's why they spend the big money to suck people in to buying something they don't need. Huh? Let people make their own decisions about healthcare. Most people are smart enough to filter out quackery. Some won't. But why should all of society loose due to the stupidity of some? I also quit using their AdSense a while ago -- just a bidding war for all the terms that describe our disease.
